Persian Oriental Rugs
The carpet Aladdin rides on is a traditional Persian oriental rug. Carpet-weaving is considered an art, which dates back to 500 B.C. in ancient Persia, where beautiful, quality rugs developed. Weavers used wool, silk, and cotton, which deteriorated over time. Because of this deterioration, not many rugs or even remnants survived.
Amazingly, the oldest carpet in the world was discovered in Siberia in 1949 and has been radiocarbon tested to the 5th century B.C. Its central area is a deep red color, and its two wide borders depict deer and Persian horseman. Persian oriental rugs were famous all over the world and are still made in Persia (Iran) today with over 1 million weavers.
