Kurdish Oriental Rugs
Kurdish oriental rugs are woven by the Kurdish people in the Middle East, predominately in eastern Turkey. This is a relatively new classification, emerging in 1988. The carpets, of course, were around before then but had not drawn the attention of collectors.
These carpets are known for their heavy, solid structure. Usually they have a symmetrical knotting, often of goat hair, on a woolen foundation. These rugs are different from the rugs made by Kurds in northern Iraq. Originally, they were relatively inexpensive carpets, but times have changed that!
